The mission of Border Patrol Foundation (BPF) is to honor the memory of fallen U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents and provide support and resources to the families. BPF provides support to Border Patrol employees, USBP agents and their families for on- and off-duty deaths, injuries, illnesses, family medical emergencies, special circumstances and student scholarships.

On March 8, 2024, Border Patrol Agent Christopher Luna, and three U.S. Army National Guard crew members, were aboard a U.S. Army National Guard Helicopter. At approximately 3:45 p.m., the helicopter crashed while responding to a suspected illegal crossing near La Grulla, Texas. Agent Luna and one of the National Guard members were killed in the crash. Another National Guard crew member also succumbed to her injuries later that afternoon.
Agent Luna began his career with U.S. Customs and Border Protection in April of 2007. A second-generation member of the U.S. Border Patrol, he served his career at the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station, Rio Grande Valley Sector. Agent Luna was survived by his wife, daughter, son, parents, and brother.
