The mission of Border Patrol Foundation (BPF) is to honor the memory of fallen U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents and provide support and resources to the families. BPF provides support to Border Patrol employees, USBP agents and their families for on- and off-duty deaths, injuries, illnesses, family medical emergencies, special circumstances and student scholarships.

Agent Freddy Ortiz began his career with the United States Border Patrol in 2010. He was assigned to the Douglas, Arizona Border Patrol Station and was known by his colleagues for his strong work ethic, reliability in the field, and his love for his country. Freddy was a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserves. During his distinguished military career, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Navy Expeditionary Ribbon, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons. On November 14, 2023, Agent Ortiz died in a single ATV accident while responding to an illegal crossing call.
